Y Not Festival - Who to go see.

The annual Derbyshire festival Y Not Festival is set to take place this upcoming weekend. It is often the last weekend of July as proven for its 14th year.

The Big Gin Festival as it was named in its first year was originally a party of 150 people. Since, it has dramatically increased seeing bands such as The Libtertines, Catfish and the Bottlemen and Kaiser Chiefs grace the The Big Gin Stage, evidently referring to the festivals original name.

This festival which is under the same management as Truck Festival has dropped a big lineup for 2019 Pikehall Attendees.

Below is the full lineup poster for 2019.

Elbow, Two Door Cinema Club and Foals are this year’s headliners.

A lineup with huge names topping the bill such as this makes it easy for people to overlook who else to see.

So, who is worth seeing that doesn’t sit at the top of the lineup?

* The Pigeon Detectives

Thursday

19:30-20:15

The Big Gin Stage

The band deserve far more than a 45 minute slot, but for a unusual festival Thursday gig you cannot complain. The scruffy Leeds l indie rock band have been around for over 15 years now and will be sure to play their iconic ‘ I Found Out’ and ‘Im Not Sorry’.

* Echo and The Bunnymen

Sunday

22:00-23:00

The Quarry

Unfortunately the 80s post punk group clash with Foals, but the Liverpudlians should definitely be taken into consideration. ‘The Cutter’ is iconic.

* The Rifles

Sunday

20:45-21:30

The Quarry

‘Local Boy’ singers who sought fame in the Indie 2000s are still around following a album release in 2016 and worth a visit during your weekend.

* Fountaines DC

Sunday

20:15-21:00

The Giant Squid

The Irish band most notable for ‘Boys in the better lane’ and their post-punk music should be a go to for all indie fans at Y Not this year. Their Debut album Dogrel was released earlier this year followed by a number of sold out gigs.

(FOLLOWING AN UPDATE FOUNTAINES DC WILL NO LONGER BE PLAYING DUE TO HEALTH REASONS)

So, if you’re heading up to Derbyshire this upcoming weekend don’t miss the chance to listen to those who could ultimately make your weekend.
