Last night we saw the ever-anticipated Brit awards take to our screen, featuring great speeches, cringe worthy interviews and huge performances from the likes of ‘Pink’ and ‘Bastille’ and much more.
The music awards for a second year was presented by comedian Jack Whitehall. The 30-year old brought his humour to the show including digs at Ed Sheeran and involving himself in ‘The Greatest Showman’ star Hugh Jackman’s performance. However, his presenting wasn’t all popular when he made an X-rated joke after Little Mix’s performance which has become Ofcom’s most complained moment of the night.
The 1975 walked away the best at the Brits. Winning the Best British Band in a tough group with the likes of Alex Turner’s Arctic Monkeys and Gorillaz. The indie-pop group in their acceptance speech referred to the Male Misogyny in the music industry, nothing too surprising from a group who opening refer to themselves as a “left leaning band”. The 4-piece group also went home with the British Album of the year award for their 3rd album ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’. The Album features the song ‘Sincerity is Scary’ which they also performed on the show after claiming the award.
The British Male Solo artist was awarded to the ‘Shotgun’ singer George Ezra which surprisingly is his first Brit Award. The Hertford-born singer has a big year lined up ahead of him emphasised in the number of festivals he is headlining such as Isle Of Wight.
Jorja Smith won the female equivalent. The 21-year old only released her debut album ‘Lost & Found’ last June, so we cannot wait to see what the young talent has ahead of her. The RnB singer fought of big names such as Florence and the Machines and Jess Glynn to win her award.
None of the international award winners were present at last nights event, however we got a video speech from all. The Carters, best known as Beyoncé and Jay-Z accepted their award for International Group in front of a painting of Kate Middleton, a parody to their famous music video for Apeshit. Ariana Grande gushed over her award International Female Solo artist while Drake thanked everyone at the Brits for his international Male Award.
Calvin Harris also had a great evening taking away an award for Best Producer alongside British Single for One Kiss with Dua Lipa.
The Public also voted for Little Mix as their winners of Best Music Video. The all girls pop band also got to perform their new music.
