Stormzys new raw and personal single, ‘Crown’.

Stormzy this #newmusicfriday has graced us with his second single ahead of his performance, a week today, on the pyramid stage at Glastonbury.

‘Crown’ was co-written by Stormzy and Jimmy Napes, who also produced the song.

It features a seven-piece British choir, LJ Singers.

The chorus of the song is slow, featuring stormzys raw voice, making it far more personal.

Speaking of personal, the song references a number of engagements socially the London singer has been through, Espically in the past couple of years.

“I done a scholarship for the kids, they said it's racist

That's not anti-white, it's pro-black”

Referencing Stormzys personal scholarship he created to help Black Students enter into Cambridge College.

The singer rightfully stood for his beliefs indentifying how black students are often under represented at institutions like Cambridge, despite having the academic ability.

The lyrics alude to the Criticism faced for this non-repayable tuition for two students.

Micheal also references his iconic Brit performance last year which gained a huge amount of publicity.

“Rain falling down at the BRITs, I'm still soaked”

At the annual music award ceremony stormzy performed ‘Blinded by your grace, PT 2’ in the pouring rain but was known for calling out the PM at the time for her lack of commitment to the tragedy of Grenfell in 2017.

The repeated chorus line “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.”

Originally comes from Shakespeare’s Henry IV Part 2, the original line is “Uneasy is the head that wears the crown” but is often misquoted.

The line metaphorically explains that despite the singers success, there is a lot of pressure of this.

The crown is his success.

The singer success is obvious in his music such as 2 Brit Awards, no 1 debut album Gang Sings and Prayers In 2017 and now his headliner slot at iconic Glastonbury.

His social success should be more respected including his persistence at helping Grenfell stay on political raider, his help with the scholarships and honesty when speaking out about mental health.

Thank you Stormzy, for your raw and honest song which we know will reach No 1.
