Indie rock band Foals have a big year lined up for them. The oxford band recently revealed to us not one, but two albums are to be released this year. The bands 5th album ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost – part 1’ is to be released this upcoming Friday while part 2 is to be later this year.
Big songs have been showcased already off the new album, ‘Exits’ being the first. The single is a nod towards the original funky Foals we know, and which sold out arenas and headlined festivals. The guitar solo is also hypnotising in the single. The dance and electronic sounds to the song are similar to what we heard from Foals ‘Holy Fire’ album. ‘Exits’ premiered on Annie Mac’s BBC 1 show.
Front man Yannis Phillipakis explained that the first album is more keyboard driven which is obvious in ‘Exits’, but rumour has is part 2 is slightly different.
‘On The Luna’ was the second release. Just like ‘Exits’, it gives us dance vibes. Something we know will be important with their upcoming tour and festivals such as Boardmasters. These dance vibes are accompanied by a catchy repetitive chorus. The song sounds like an alternative to ‘My Number’, an iconic song by the 4-piece band. Some say the new song has an 80’s feel but with lively guitars. Again, the song was documented on Annie Mac’s radio show.
‘Sunday’ was the bands 3rd and last single release before the album release. Unlike the other two songs, ‘Sunday’, is slower and calming though this is only at the beginning of the song. It completely changes and build ups towards the end. The lyrics echo some pessimistic vibes including the lyrics “the birds are singing it’s the end of the world”. Lead singer in a recent interview explained the current world issues have had an impact.
The band yesterday played their first show, an intimate Manchester gig with a huge setlist featuring new and old songs.

We cannot wait to hear Foals’ new album on Friday, we expect a blend of all the genres the band have dipped into in past albums.
