2019 Summer Album: Father of the Bride

Vampire weekend earlier this year graced us with their 4th album ‘Father of the Bride’, their first album in 6 years.

The New York Indie-rock band led by Ezra Koenig had been teasing festival audiences on this album long before its release.

In the years off he relocated to Los Angels, pursued a virbant change of career and made an animated series for Netflix and became a father.

Father of the Bride is a double album with 18 Songs, featuring Harmony Hall, Big Blue and 2012.

We’re very glad the American Band released it this summer as it as very bright airy and reimagined album, perfect for the hot weather.

The lead singer writes with wit and relaxed lyrics, he comes across in real life just the same.

The reinvented band mix genres and echo a 90s band in the modern day, using technology editing but also their raw voices.

The raw lyrics also reference rebirth, old age and summer.

Hence why I have made it my summer album of this year.

‘Sunflower’ and ‘Big Blue’ are evident of this.

Ezra referred to this album as one in which it was an easy listen and one people could figure out who was singing.

The lyrics however are intellectual, a typical Vampire Weekend trait. Married in a Gold Rush featuring Haims Daniel Haims is a great listen to showcase this.

Arguably, the previous albums by the band such as Contra preserve a sense of anxiety and restlessness but Father of the Bride is more sunny. But, what can you expect from a band who have been away for 6 years? Change

The band have this summer been best known for their great performance on the pyramid stage at Glastonbury. Their highest slot at Worthy Farm.

The Band have reinvented themselves and in doing so have given us a earthy positive album, far from that of Moderm Vampires.
